- Posterior Capsulotomy
One of the most common uses of YAG laser is in treating posterior capsule opacification (PCO), a common complication following cataract surgery. The laser creates an opening in the opacified capsule to restore clear vision. - Peripheral Iridotomy
YAG laser is used in the management and prevention of angle-closure glaucoma. It creates a small hole in the peripheral iris to facilitate the flow of aqueous humor and lower intraocular pressure. - Anterior Vitriolizes
In cases where vitreous strands are present in the anterior chamber (e.g., vitreous prolapse after surgery), the YAG laser can be applied to cut or lyse these strands. - Pupillary Membrane Lysis
The YAG laser is used to break or remove fibrous membranes over the pupil that may develop post-surgery or due to uveitis, helping to improve pupillary function and visual acuity. - Laser Hyaloidotomy
In patients with preambular hemorrhage, the YAG laser can be used to create an opening in the posterior hyaloid face to allow the hemorrhage to drain into the vitreous cavity, speeding up visual recovery. - IOL Surface Polishing
Although less common, YAG laser may be used to polish certain intraocular lenses (IOLs) that have surface deposits or fibrosis, improving optical clarity without the need for IOL exchange.
